Greetings District and Zone Leaders,

I want to draw your attention today to an incredible opportunity for Rotarians (and non-Rotarians) in your district. Please join RI President John Germ and a host of world-class speakers at the 2017 Rotary World Peace Conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan this March 31st and April 1st. I'm especially excited to hear from famed economist Jeffrey Sachs, a leader in sustainable development and a UN Advisor. The NY Times has twice named him “the most important economist in the world”.

I am pleased to inform you that this week we launched the refreshed pages of Rotary.org in 8 languages.  The website is the first window that the public has to our organization and this latest improvement is an important step to support one of the three pillars of Rotary’s Strategic Plan: to enhance public image and awareness.
The Rotary.org refresh is focused on those pages of the website that can be accessed by the public, prior to log in by Rotary members to MyRotary.

Here is a quick summary of accomplishments:

World Polio Day – How One Rotarian Made a Difference!

In an effort to highlight World Polio Day, Dean Dickinson, PDG-D6250 called the newspaper in La Crosse and asked them if they would be interested in learning more about the upcoming eradication of the second disease in the history of mankind.  Needless to say, that got the editor’s attention.

This is a link to the article that came from that simple phone call -  a shining example of one Rotarian, making one contact, with outstanding results.  La Crosse is a community of 52,000 – so we can’t be told that daily newspapers aren’t interested in this type of “news”.  Click here to see and hear Dean tell about this outstanding public image experience that is an extraordinary story about Rotary and our involvement in the polio eradication efforts and, more importantly, it is the result of one person taking the initiative to share Rotary – and doing good in the world.

November 2015 earthquake damages in SRI villages in the Swat Valley

SWAT VALLEY OF PAKISTAN HIT HARD BY EARTH QUAKE

This past September at the Motor City Zone we had the pleasure of meeting and hearing from Princess Zebu Jilani of Swat Valley. Just a few weeks ago her village and many surrounding it were struck by a massive 8.1 earthquake. Several people were killed, many were injured and countless numbers lost everything. Please see this most recent correspondence from Rotarian Zebu requesting aid. Anything your clubs and districts can do to help will be most greatly appreciated.

Warmest, Jennifer

Thank You!

Greetings Rotary Leaders,

I’m writing today to say thank you to the countless volunteers who contributed to making the Motor City Zone a huge success.

Our dream was to bring our Zone leadership to Detroit to showcase the great city that we know it is – the comeback kid story! I truly believe that Detroit is going through a cultural renaissance and I wanted you to see her in all it’s splendor. Well folks – we did it. People are raving about Detroit and I am getting hundreds of messages that you are coming back for more.

There were literally dozens and dozens of volunteers from across our 28 districts that took time to pick up hundreds of our visitors from the airport, acted as greeters, took photographs, produced an outstanding program, participated as training leaders, acted as Sergeant at Arms, hosted receptions, and provided hospitality and inspiration. If this were a report card, all I can say is A+++.

Thank You! 2015-10-05 05:00:00Z

Rotary and Peace Corps Find Relevance with Retirees

March 13,  2015,  THE  NEW YORK TIMES

(forwarded by Assistant Rotary Coordinator & PDG Carlos Früm, D6440)

THREE years ago, Douglas Crumley sold his financial planning practice in Fair Oaks, Calif., and he and his wife, Ann, left the country. “The intention was to live in Ecuador and travel through South America doing the retirement thing,” he said. “Well, I became absolutely bored. I don’t speak Spanish well enough to assimilate and walking up and down the beaches seemed unproductive.” So seven months after setting up stakes abroad, Mr. Crumley, now 69, and his wife, Ann, 53, moved back to the United States and settled in Tampa, Fla. She headed into the work force selling residential real estate, but Mr. Crumley was not certain what to do with himself.

Welcome to Rotary Zones 28 and 29
Greetings Rotarians,

I hope this note finds you well and enjoying the beginning of a new Rotary year. My heartiest congratulations to all officers who have stepped into new roles as District Governors, Coordinators, Club Presidents, etc. Every one of you is an important cog in the Rotary wheel and we are so fortunate to have your incredible leadership.

At this time, I would like to take the opportunity to share a special thank you to now Past Rotary International Director (PRID) Mary Beth. On behalf of the entire team in Zones 28 and 29 – thank you for your leadership, dedication, hard work and advocacy for Rotary and our membership. I know you gave your heart and soul.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Past Rotary International Vice President, Tom Thorfinnson on becoming a Trustee of the Rotary Foundation. We applaud your leadership and know you are a perfect steward for our valuable contributions.

President Ravi has provided us with an exciting new path and it is one that I look forward to sharing with you over the several months. He has asked us to “Be a Gift to the World”. He says this is our time and it will never come again. To me this is another way of saying Carpe Diem or Seize the Day. Each of you bring special talents to our dear organization and you are truly capable of changing the world.
